I am proud to let you know that YOU are among those few people, who have
been selected to be the first members of the MHEG-5 Users Group.
This is due to the fact, that you have been participating the MHEG-5
Verification Group. The VGroups site will go down very soon, and the
mailing list as well. In order to give these another "home" a MHEG-5
Users group will be established.
The most important message: The MHEG-5 Users Group can not live on its
own (which would make no sense). Since it has no official relation to
ISO or SC29WG12, it can not be "decided" by some "higher" entity that a
Users Group has to happen. Instead, the SC29WG12 gives the initial help
and some volunteers will run the users group in the first place (i.e.
maintain the WWW site and the maillist). After this, the real users will
decide if such a group is appreciated, or not.
So, you can easily decide if you want to leave the group (by exiting the
maillist: Please send a request to the maintainer team
(mailto:mheg-ug-core@fokus.gmd.de)) As you can see, there will be a
group of maintainer-volunteers.
Please visit the site http://www.fokus.gmd.de/ovma/mug to get a first
impression. Please send comments! The groups maillist is
mailto:mheg-ug@fokus.gmd.de
In particular, see the links page, and send additional information, if
you want to see YOUR site mentioned there.
What is the mandate? As written above, the mandate is to be selected
by those, who are participating. In the first place, the idea is to
disseminate MHEG-5 information of all kinds, and to have a place in the
Web where the MHEG folks can find themselves. Right now, the idea is to
cover in particular MHEG-5. Hence, the title is "MHEG-5 Users Group".
But the maillist is named "mheg-ug" which allows a broader scope
later... (truth is: the list was created before the Cupertino meeting,
where this title was under discussion. Creation of a list takes some
time at GMD FOKUS, and therefore, I stick with the name right now).
I will come back with more information later.
Bye,
- Klaus
