I'd like to draw your attention to
http://enterprise.prz.tu-berlin.de/mheg-6-vgroup/index.html, the MHEG-6
Verification Group. A link at the MUGs
http://www.fokus.gmd.de/ovma/mug/mheg6.html
was updated.
However, the MUG page on MHEG 6 is in a bad shape. Perhaps someone can
provide something better?
Another open issue is the recent request for DSM-CC expertise on the
paper
http://www.fokus.gmd.de/ovma/mug/archives/documents/dsmcc-mheg.doc.gz
No comment on that as well until now. Please note, that this was
requested by SC29WG11.
Additionally, I would like to draw your attention also to the upcoming
CeBIT fair in Hannover (13-19 march). If all goes well you will see some
MHEG related things at the booth of Deutsche Telekom, as a result of the
GLUE project. If you are by chance there, you may see me in the first
half of the fair there. If you want to meet, please drop me a note and I
will make sure that you get all the appropriate attention :-)
Another message from Tom Casey is repeated for your attention below,
asking for new work items on conformance testing on MHEG-5.

--- message from tom ---- MHEGers,
during development of the MHEG standards verification testing has been carried out on some objects of parts 1 and 5. Unlike JPEG and MPEG, we have not produced specific Parts for MHEG that deal with compliance or Conformance. JPEG has published ISO/IEC 10918 -2 Compliance testing, MPEG-1 has published ISO/IEC 11172 -4 Compliance Testing, and MPEG-2 has published ISO/IEC 13818-4 Conformance Testing.
I believe these publication make the JPEG and MPEG standards complete and give users and potential users greater confidence in implementing these standards.
If MHEG were to produce similar documents for its implementable parts I think we may provide a useful service to our users. Given that there is already a users group set up that is continuing to promote implementation work, I don't think these standards would be difficult to produce.
I would like to poll the members of WG 12 to determine your views on this and to ask who would like to help develop similar parts for MHEG
especially for MHEG - 5 and MHEG -6 at this time;
if there is a similar interest for MHEG -1 what national bodies are willing to participate in this work.
JTC1 has always been interested in having formal compliance parts defined for Implementable standards. The SC 29 secretariat suggest we request creation of the parts at the March 1997 SC29 plenary in Dijon, if the WG have enough NBs interested in participating in the work to proceed with this effort.
It is my belief that much of the work on these parts can be done via email and in that way minimize the cost of travel. Perhaps having one face-to-face meeting a year if necessary with interim reports submitted to the WG12 Plenary however often they are held. How we actually work is a matter for discussion.
I have a zipped copy of MPEG -2 13818-4 (sc29 N1216_1.zip),about 112K if any one would like to see what the MPEG work looks like on Conformance Testing let me know and I will email a copy to you. You should be able to get copies of the JPEG and other MPEG-1 documents from your NB, but if you have problems getting these and want to see a copy let me know and I will search them out.
Please let me have your reaction to this proposal.
Regards
Tom
