due to some lack of time, I can not go to the technical detail for the
listgroup.
Here is just some background on the Listgroup, which might help to
understand
why this is a bit different. But of course, that does not help on the
technical
matters.
The development of the ListGroup was a very painful process in the very
last stage
of the MHEG-5 standardization. It has definitly not the same level of
integration
compared to the other classes, and much political issues have been on
the stage
at that time. I guess it was disapointing for all involved parties (at
least for me).
So, I think that this class needs (together with others) much more care
during
maintainance.

This is completely correct, unfortunately. ISO procedures are slow. (I
have
even heard recently that ISO has not officially published the text!!!)
In addition to that, changes are difficult as well. It can not be
compared to
W3C procedures, since it also implies legal issues, e.g. in Germany some
govermental processes (i.e. decision which technology is to be
supported)
are bound to ISO standards.
However, there is a window of opportunity. As mentioned some days ago,
SC29WG12 has established a maintainance group. The MUG will play a
supporting
role here, I hope.
When applying changes to MHEG-5 we have to take much care, ie. we have
to
be conservative due to existing installations.
It is upto me to make a timeplan and to organize this work. This has to
be proposed
to ISO. I would like to receive some feedback on the procedure:
* Is EMail communication appropriate for that in the first place?
* Shall I establish a new maillist for that, or is the MUG appropriate?
* Would it be usefull to have an AdHoc meeting on MHEG-5 maintainance?
I could arrange a meeting in Berlin (GER) early next year, i.e. late
Jan or
early feb. Would anyone attend?
I am looking forward to your comments...
