Since there are direct questions asked, I am going to answer these.
As long as no other MUGgers contribute to the debate I would suggest to

I have asked implementors quite often to provide details about products.
Personally I have seen at least 6 different graphical editing tools.
But I am not in the position to advertise them here, when the owners
do not want that. But of course, all MUG folks are again invited to
pass me infos to be mounted at the MUGs www site.

I would not call it an error.

That is what we try to do in the last years. There have been DAVIC
interop events where common applications have been demonstrated and
tested. At FOKUS we are in contact with a number of developers, we
exchange apps also. I know also plenty of activities in Asia about that,
and there are a number of CEC projects, as well as industrial
productions. I have also seen STB with MHEG engines from various
manufactorers. I really do not see a problem here, as long as you follow
the application domain.
